The Asymmetrical body,2011, Geneva

Since 2011, I inserted my own body into my visual works. I photographed it and started mutilating the images with scissors. I began to deal with the topic directly: I was born with disability. My right hand has one finger and is shorter than my left hand. My left foot is six centimeters shorter and has three toes. The solution my family had found for reducing my friction with society was that I had to hide my right hand under my sleeve. This concealment and secrecy had continued until five years ago. The first series I did on this theme was called ‘The Asymmetrical Body’ and consisted of collages done on cardboards. I could not exhibit them in Iran due to the nudity they contained, yet I used a chance to show them in Geneva.
